How Often Should You Really Get a Haircut? Asking for a Friend

This is one of the most common questions barbers hear, and the answer is… it depends. Helpful, we know.

Hair grows at different speeds, styles age differently, and personal tolerance for “messy” varies wildly. Some people notice a millimetre of growth and panic. Others don’t book until their fringe is actively interfering with their vision.

As a general rule, most men benefit from a haircut every three to six weeks. Shorter styles, fades, and sharp outlines tend to need more frequent attention to stay looking fresh. Longer or more relaxed styles can stretch a bit further without losing their shape.

Beards follow similar logic. A quick tidy every few weeks keeps things intentional rather than accidental. Left too long, even the best beard can start to look like it’s making its own decisions.

At Sandy Barber, we’re big believers in maintenance over emergency fixes. Regular trims are easier, quicker, and keep your style consistent. That said, life happens. Busy weeks turn into busy months, and suddenly it’s “definitely time”.

Whether you’re a regular every few weeks or an occasional visitor who waits for the signs, you’re always welcome. No judgement. Just solid advice and professional grooming when you need it.

And if you’re still unsure? Ask your barber. We promise we’ve been asked stranger things.
